LCCI Visits London Gatwick Airport

We were delighted to visit LCCI Patron Member London Gatwick during National Apprenticeship Week to learn more about the airport’s commitment to skills and apprenticeships and to reaffirm our support for its expansion plans. Our visit came the day after the government announced that up to 10,000 more apprentices will be able to qualify each year thanks to new government reforms to apprenticeships.

We were pleased to visit London Gatwick’s STEM Centre, where we met airport partners who are shaping the workforce of the future offering apprenticeships in aviation, construction, retail, and hospitality including Network Rail, Mace, Jackson Civil Engineering, UK Border Force and Sussex Police amongst others. We spoke with Dave White, Apprentice Development Lead at London Gatwick and heard first-hand from students about their positive experiences as apprentices at London Gatwick.

Our delegation, led by our CEO Karim Fatehi OBE, engaged in key discussions on the Northern Runway project and its crucial role in strengthening London’s economy and UK connectivity ahead of the Secretary of State’s upcoming decision later this month. The visit also included a tour of the North Terminal and an overview from Andy Mansell of London Gatwick’s ongoing expansion and infrastructure improvements, including a vantage point view from the Pier 6 Bridge to see key projects in action.

We also had the opportunity to see the Northern Terminal Departure Lounge abuzz with activity. Jack Howe showed us the newly revamped retail and hospitality space,  and we were impressed by the variety of shops, cafes, and restaurants available for passengers. The transformation is part of a wider investment in the terminal, aimed at enhancing the customer experience.

As a champion for business growth, investment, and infrastructure, we are committed to supporting the airport’s growth ambitions. A thriving London Gatwick means more jobs, better connectivity, and a stronger UK economy.

Thank you to London Gatwick for hosting us and for your continued partnership. We look forward to working together to drive forward these exciting developments!
