LCCI Visits Patron Member Luton Rising

London Chamber of Commerce and Industry had the pleasure of visiting Patron Member Luton Rising, where we discussed its ambitious growth plans and explored how we can foster further inward investment to unlock London Luton Airport and the town's full potential.

The visit came on the day of the UK Government’s International Investment Summit which put UK Investment at the centre of the UK’s economic vision and highlighted the UK’s strong economic landscape in the key industries which are driving the UK’s standing as the investment destination of choice.

London plays a key role in attracting investment and is a global leader in industries including finance, technology, sustainability and education. London attracted over £20bn in cross-border investments in 2022 and is the largest destination for venture capital in Europe. These flows of investment into London grow jobs and businesses and spread prosperity across the entire country.

A vibrant London is critical to the Government's efforts to secure a more prosperous future, and long-term policy stability and a bolstered Office for Investment will help London attract investment and drive growth nationwide.

During the visit, we gained valuable insight into the strategic priorities of Luton Rising, including its aspirations to position Luton as a hub for innovation and investment. Key takeaways included:

  • Growth Inspirations: Luton Rising aims to become a key player not only in the local economy but also on the national stage. Its focus on sustainable infrastructure and innovation is setting the foundation for long-term success, and a positive decision for its proposed Development Consent Order for the long-term sustainable growth of the airport can be the catalyst.
  • Investment Opportunities: Attracting inward investment is both a challenge and an opportunity for the business. We explored how support from LCCI and strategic policy initiatives from the Labour government could make Luton an even more attractive destination for investors.
  • Policy Support: The need for infrastructure improvements and regulatory support to create a thriving business environment was highlighted. Luton Rising’s vision aligns closely with the government’s agenda for regional development and economic growth.

With the UK International Investment Summit shining a spotlight on UK business, it’s pivotal to highlight the importance of investment in areas like Luton and ensure London and the UK remain a competitive and attractive destination for global investors. We are excited to continue this dialogue and are committed to supporting Luton Rising’s aspirations and highlighting London’s role as a vital investment gateway that spreads jobs and opportunities across all nations and regions of the UK.
