New rules for imports to the UK from the EU, effective 1 January 2022

There are new border controls which will affect goods arriving to the UK from the EU. Any imports due to arrive on or after 1 January 2022, will have to comply with the below requirements:

  • EU can no longer be used for the origin Country Code. HRMC stated that the correct country code for the country of origin and the country of dispatch must be used when completing a customs declaration. For EU countries, the individual country code of the relevant member state must be used instead. Click here for further information
  • Imports must be pre-lodged. Importers must make an import declaration prior to the goods leaving the EU. Click here for further information
  • IPAFFS pre-notifications. All imports of Products of Animal Origin (POAO), Animal By-Products (ABP), Composite products, live Animals and High Risk Foods Not of Animal Origin (HRFNAO) must be pre-notified on the Import of Products, Animals, Food and Feed System (IPAFFS). Goods that have not been pre-notified via IPAFFS will not be able to clear the border**

** We offer the service for IPAFFS pre-notifications at a cost of £62.40 inclusive of VAT (per notification)
