Cycle Superhighway plans disappointing, but some important concessions

Commenting on the approval today by Mayor Boris Johnson of plans for an east-west cycle superhighway route ahead of Transport for London's Board meeting next week, Colin Stanbridge, Chief Executive of London Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) said: "We support improving transport infrastructure for road users and cyclists alike. However, we are disappointed that more concessions were not made to cater for the thousands of London businesses who rely on the capital's road system to transport freight.

"After tireless campaigning, we are pleased to see that some of the important changes we lobbied for have been made to the route, including removing the proposed banned right turn at Fish Street Hill and the revised plans around Parliament Square.

"We will continue to follow the process carefully, particularly the consultation on other banned turns along the Embankment, and will not hesitate in speaking up for London businesses wherever their views need to be heard."
