LCCI responds to National Planning Policy Framework (NPPF) consultation

Wednesday 2 October 2024

The London Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) has responded to The Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government's consultation on the proposed reforms to the National Planning Policy Framework and other changes to the planning system.

LCCI's submission was produced following extensive consultation with members of its Connected Liveable London committee and Property and Construction Forum and seeks to ensure that concerns of its members are represented in this important policy discussion.

Commenting on the submission, Karim Fatehi MBE, CEO of LCCI, said:

"Our submission to The Ministry of Housing, Communities & Local Government recognises the need for local planning authorities to have greater control and oversight over what is built and where, to accurately reflect the needs and wants of local areas.

"The Government's proposals should, in theory, simplify the process for local authorities to advance plans for much-needed housing, which we strongly support. However, we believe greater attention must be given to the essential infrastructure required to sustain these developments, including hospitals, schools, and transport links. Equally, we feel that freight and logistics should be considered as essential in supporting communities to grow and thrive.

"Overall, we believe the proposed changes to the NPPF are a positive step forward. However, it is crucial that the government continues to engage with businesses to ensure that all stakeholders involved in the sustainable growth and development of our cities and rural areas have their voices heard.”
