LCCI welcome London council support for local business

Tuesday 5 May 2020

LCCI today responded to the latest figures showing council distribution of coronavirus grant funds.

Richard Burge, Chief Executive of London Chamber of Commerce and Industry, said: “On average, London’s councils have managed to provide coronavirus grants to 74% of businesses in their area. I applaud councils for stepping up, at pace, to aid the survival of their local businesses.

Ealing and Westminster have very nearly granted funding to 100% of the applicable businesses in their borough. But some councils remain closer to 50% provision than 100%, so there is still clearly work to be done in some boroughs, which equally requires sufficient response to council contact from companies.

“Once it is made available, it is also now key that councils provide swift access to the concessionary funding that the Government announced to try and plug the gaps for those businesses unable to access these business grants up until now – such as those in shared spaces.”
