London Chamber of Commerce backs Northern Line extension
Commenting on the approval of the Northern Line extension to Battersea by the Secretary of State, Chief Executive of the London Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI), Colin Stanbridge said:
"We have long supported the extension of the Northern line as a key part of our campaign to grow London and improve infrastructure to cater for the growing population, so we are pleased to see the Secretary of State take a decisive step towards this.
"We believe that adequately resourced, resilient transport infrastructure is a central requirement to guarantee sustainable economic growth in London and cater to the increased demand from passengers as the population continues to increase.
"In our response to the consultation on the extension in July, we noted that projections indicate this development has the potential to create a new London district with up to 16,000 new homes and business space to create up to 25,000 jobs.
"In order to deliver these projections, we are willing to work with TfL, Lambeth and Wandsworth Councils to develop a local economic plan to set out how to attract business to the area."
