One Year of Success: City of London Chamber's Anniversary Reception

Thursday 8 February 2024

Amidst the august surroundings of Guildhall Art Gallery, the City of London Chamber celebrated its first anniversary on 7 February. The prestigious event featured esteemed speakers, including the Economic Secretary to the Treasury and City Minister, Bim Afolami MP, the Lord Mayor of London, Michael Mainelli, Policy Chairman of the City of London Corporation Chris Hayward, Liz Henderson, Director of Membership and Events at LCCI, and Alderman Prem Goyal OBE, Founding Chair of the City of London Chamber.

Liz Henderson opened the evening with a speech focusing on the practical support offered by the Chamber to businesses, referencing the unveiled LCCI London Mayoral manifesto presented at the reception.

Liz was then followed on the podium by the Lord Mayor, who, in his address, reminisced about a key highlight during his tenure: the London Chamber of Commerce and Industry's float for the Lord Mayor Show in November 2023, supporting Ukraine. This demonstration underscored the vitality of the Lord Mayor’s theme, "Connect to Prosper," in the Chamber's work. The Lord Mayor's sentiments were echoed by Policy Chairman Chris Hayward, emphasising the pivotal role of the City of London Chamber in the life of the City.

The City was also a focal point in the Economic Secretary to the Treasury, Bim Afolami MP's remarks, where he strongly expressed how the City serves as the engine for the UK economy. Bim emphasised that for far too long there were some people in the country who wished for economic prosperity without taking any risks to achieve it.This has to change for the benefit of the whole country, the Minister concluded.

The reception attracted influential figures, including senior-level professionals, LCCI members, business leaders, and key stakeholders from the City of London business community. They all reflected on the Chamber's impact on shaping the business landscape within the Square Mile.

Alderman Prem Goyal OBE, Founding Chair of the City of London Chamber and Chairman of the Audit and Risk Management Committee of the City of London Corporation, hosted the successful event. Prem was duly thanked by all speakers for his exceptional leadership of the City of London Chamber.

The anniversary reception not only symbolised a year of accomplishments for the City of London Chamber but also set the stage for continued advocacy, collaboration, and success in the years to come.
