Rail strikes will only hinder Britain's post-pandemic recovery

Thursday 9 June 2022

Richard Burge, Chief Executive of the London Chamber of Commerce and Industry, said:

“The OECD has just warned that UK economic growth will be grinding to halt over the next year which illustrates just how fragile our post-pandemic economic recovery is. With this weighing on businesses and consumers alike, London cannot afford a summer of chaos on the railways and tube lines.

"The London Chamber is deeply frustrated that RMT, Network Rail, and the Government have failed to resolve their disputes and now the RMT is due to strike again later this month. This is a move which undoubtedly will disrupt individuals, businesses and the smooth running of the country. We urge all parties to return to negotiations and to call off this planned strike. All parties need to engage constructively and recognise the damage the present path will do the country.”
