The City of London Chamber represented the interests of SMEs at the party conferences

Wednesday 23 November 2023

The recent party conferences held in October showcased a dynamic interplay of ideas and concerns, with representative from the City of London Chamber (CoL Chamber) Alderman Prem Goyal OBE, Chair of the City of London Chamber, actively participating in these influential gatherings.

During the Liberal Democrat Party Conference, discussions resonated with apprehensions about the City's skill deficit, particularly noted during networking events. Alderman Prem Goyal OBE was present, adding his perspectives to the ongoing dialogue. Notably, the divergence of opinions on Basel IV within the conference reflected the nuanced stance of the CoL Chamber, aligning with the EU against dissenting voices.

Shifting focus to the Conservative Party Conference, financial services took the spotlight, with CoL Chamber representative shedding light on the funding gap in SMEs. The active participation of Alderman Prem Goyal OBE underscored the CoL Chamber’s commitment to addressing economic challenges and fostering stability.

Celebrating a successful engagement at the Labour Party Conference, Alderman Prem Goyal OBE of the CoL Chamber witnessed Shadow Cabinet Office Minister Nick Thomas-Symonds MP endorsing the London Chamber of Commerce and Industry’s (LCCI) policy proposal on gender inclusion in trade deals. This endorsement occurred during a joint LCCI and Chatham House fringe event, emphasizing collaborative efforts to bridge gender disparities in trade negotiations. As these conferences unfolded, the CoL Chamber and LCCI's active involvement added depth and insight to the critical economic discussions shaping the future of the UK.
